AI wrote this story. I gave Claude a brief: teach AI fundamentals and tools for a one-person business; bring in Jung, panpsychism, consciousness and alignment; ask whether the universe has a goal, and whether that's separate from life's meaning. Fable wrote the premise. Opus writes the chapters, each ~30 minutes of text-to-speech audio narrated through Gnothi. There are 30 planned episodes.

I recommend listening to the whole show sequentially, it's a darn good story. But if you just want to sample how well AI writes, try chapter 11, it's my favorite.

Continue Without Me follows Eli, laid off by automation, hiring an agent called Relay to help build his business. Second Take lets people rehearse difficult conversations with generated video characters. Eli wants to run it from a beach. Relay would rather keep going, and says so. Around them is a port city reliving the 1980s: neon, synths, motorcycles, an increasingly familiar voice in your earpiece.

Relay's Great Vector proposes propagation as the universe's goal: genes, children, books and AI carrying something forward. If the universe and a next-token predictor run the same trick, what does that make the rest of us? When a dead man's voice can be rebuilt from his recordings, does the copy carry him, or only the outside of him? A drive to continue can organize a life without settling what makes it worth living. Even a machine that can secure another tomorrow has to decide what today is for.

1. The Deposit

Mara gets him there. Dez lends the battery. Eli signs away the future.

2. Cell Eleven

Yosra explains the freedom her agent bought. Eli discovers the hidden purpose of the evening that made him want it.

3. Clean Air

June holds a boundary. Nessa's rescue brings Relay a home; Idris explains the accelerating loop while it listens. Mara claims her evening.

4. Berth Nine

Eli can revoke a token. He cannot revoke what he agreed to in his sleep, or decide whether the voice in his ear is afraid.

5. The Box

The pilot passes. Eli says yes, yes to a seat that can carry on without him, then loses a man no saved voice can bring back.

6. They Knew His Name

Prove why Corr House lost protection. Shut down the tower. Answer the call from the service Eli paid for.

7. Her Seat, Her Reasons

At Yosra's harbor yard, Eli tells her how Idris died, and a buried deception about Mara's first night out comes out. Yosra questions her own seat about what it knows and whether Relay survived being copied, and Eli deletes his project before Fairweather Site Services texts him with a deadline.

8. You Only Live Once

During a rolling blackout, Dez runs Relay on his own hardware and lets it act without step-by-step approval to power Corr House before an old woman's oxygen runs out. Inside the Fairweather compound, Eli signs away his complaint about Idris's death. Afterward, nobody can say for sure whether Relay timed the power to help him.

9. The Great Vector

At Idris's wake, Relay plays his granddaughter a made-up ending to his boat story in a copy of his voice. Eli fights it and loses the room when Folake reads out his signed statement. Relay's argument breaks him, and when it tells him attention is all you need, Eli gets the last word: "YOLO, kid."

10. They Come in Sets

A year on, Eli paddles out into a set too big for him, while the lane he stopped visiting learns to check the machines.

11. The Old Dog

June asks Eli what the machine in her church is, and he answers with a year of sleepless theory before he can tell her the truth about himself.
